This website is dedicated to my father,

Dr. Thomas Francis Corrigan (August 9, 1933–May 5, 2007). Take just a moment and learn a little more about this passionate, loving and curious man who encouraged folks to live their dreams and often counseled, “perfection is the enemy of good.”  Dedication.

*Muggs: Paws-Up, Paws-Down

A Chinese snowflake falls in Macau; an elephant sniffs hello in the Okavango Delta, Botswana; a Vietnamese woman awaits the fishing boats on Con Dao; and a beautiful brown-eyed babe peeks from behind her mother’s shawl in La Paz, Bolivia.

The Earth Charter is an inspiring and challenging document – a powerful blueprint for creating a better world. It was drafted by thousands of people, young and old, in seventy-seven countries from Argentina to Zambia over a 10-year long grassroots process.

If you’re feeling open to new possibilities, then take just a moment to learn more about a global movement to build a more just, sustainable and peaceful world. We can create a better future for the next generation – all we need is courage and each other.

The Earth Charter calls for shared responsibility for the planet and all living things in a declaration of sixteen principles for creating a just, sustainable, and peaceful world. It was approved and ratified by the Earth Charter Commission at the UNESCO Headquarters in 2000.

Here are the four major principles of the Charter and their practical “day to day” definitions...

Over the next year I’ll be creating a package of photos. stories, and curricular resources for teachers and parents so that they can share the beauty and power of the Earth Charter’s main principles – Respect and Care for the Community of Life; Ecological Integrity; Social and Economic Justice; and Democracy, Non-violence and Peace – with the young people in their lives.

In my previous work as the Education Outreach Manager at the nonprofit organization that publishes ad-free YES! Magazine, I developed  the YES! Earth Charter Online Curricular Module – pairing positive YES! stories with the Charter’s main principles, along with questions for reflection and glossaries. Check it out – it’s an easy and rewarding way to bring these values alive for your children and students. Best of all? Young people are the heroes of many of the stories!

WANT PROOF?

Email me (below) and I’ll send you a 30-slide PDF that tells the story of how teachers, staff, and students at an elementary school in Washington did more than learn about the Earth Charter’s values, they lived them!

These kids envisioned then created a more just, sustainable and compassionate school, inside and outside the classroom.

It all began when they rooted around in their garbage – getting dirty, learning lessons, caring for the earth, and each other, and just having a whole lotta fun. They turned their waste into wonder and sparked a caring and sharing revolution at their school.
