As I sit in Colombo, I finally find myself with a bit of online time that doesn’t involve researching the latest kidnapping or suicide bombing in Kabul. What a breath of fresh air to read Will’s blog. It is a place I visit when feeling a bit worn down by the work I do, but unfortunately I don’t always have the time to stop and smell the roses, so to speak.
I’ve got Will’s blog set up with an RSS feed so I can always find an interesting bit (they’re all fun to read) that catches my eye. I don’t know if Will knows how many smiles he brings to the folks who read his musings, but I’m writing this so that he at least knows that this reader is smiling when she opens a page or two!
Will has inspired me. Hopefully I’ll have a bit more time to work on this blog as well. Although not as lighthearted as Will’s, now that I’m in Afghanistan I’d love to continue sharing my experiences in a country which most will never have the opportunity to visit. One of my drivers told me that his dream is to set up an Afghan travel and tour service ... It is an amazing country and I hope that one day the country has the political climate that will allow Shoaib to reach his dream. And then we’ll all go on a camping trip to the Panshjer Valley or visit the Buddhas of Bamyan...
Will writes so much about Reesie that I felt I was ignoring my beautiful pups. Sobi and Silver live with their dad in Sri Lanka and are looking forward to moving to Afghanistan soon insha’allah!
