Travels with Bev

So, you ask, what does one do on a Saturday afternoon in Afghanistan? Well, going for a picnic is always an option. Of course, these are not quite picnics in the North American tradition. Back home we don’t go in convoy, with HF radios, in armoured cars.. Nor do we sit at the riverside while horsemen come up and try to entice you to go for a bit of a ride. The food is very “testy” (what most Afghans say), with kabobs and Afghan bread. After lunch there are no facilities available prior to the one and a half hour drive back to Kabul. So what to do? Go to the next province to the home of the parents of one of the drivers of course. While there sit on the floor in a cozy room and be served tea and fresh yoghurt. Then take a few minutes to pet the newborn calf outside the door. All in all, a pretty nice day!

Well, looks like I’ve come back to the scene of the crime. Afghanistan got under my skin and I had to come back. It’s an incredibly special place with wonderful people. Please keep it in your prayers.
