Piper came down with her first case of the sniffles last week. I'm pretty sure she picked it up at her daycare center... I noticed several other babies there with snot issues. I am more relaxed about the situation now that her health seems to be on the mend, but I was pretty anxious about it at first. It is frustrating, especially as a new and relatively inexperienced parent, to watch your tiny child become ill and not be able to do much to help. When I called Piper's doctor for advice, I was told to put saline drops in her nose several times a day and follow up with an aspirator to help keep her nasal passages clear. Let's just say that this regimen has not been going over well with the baby. Honestly, I can't blame her... I would scream too if attacked by a blue rubber apparatus with a nervous parent attached to the end of it. Who designed those things, anyway? I bought three different aspirators in an attempt to find one small enough to fit up Piper's nose (which is small, but not abnormally so), and they all turned out to be exactly the same: too big. Even the one designed "especially for preemies" doesn’t work. I have decided that it's easier for both of us if I allow nature to take its course. Bring on the flying boogers!
