“MoRo”

Optimizing the man machine interface on devices such as treadmills can provide numerous challenges.  The human interface relationship of a treadmill differs from that of traditional locomotion on a fixed surface in that the tread is in motion.  Optimizing the treadmill design to closely resemble actual road load conditions involves the entire power transmission matrix.  Below are images of an optimized electric machine for a cardiac rehabilitation treadmill.  This is part of an ongoing research and design effort to allow for the treadmill experience to duplicate that of road conditions.
