Contemporary Ballet Dolls
Self-taught textile artist Kaysha Korrow, age 17, presents her original line of handmade cloth dancer dolls.
Born at home on a small farm in rural Kentucky, Kaysha Korrow’s artistic nature was allowed to unfold from an early age. She began making her first dolls at age three. Many of her early toys were handmade by her and her family. Growing up without television, video games, junk food, and much of the mental pollution that children have to fend off, Kaysha instead grew up in an idyllic setting amidst organic gardens, chickens, goats and cows. Kaysha spent her first years sewing by hand and by baking homemade bread for the local natural food co-op, she earned money to buy her first sewing machine. Along with sewing and other needle crafts, Kaysha is a student of dance and costume design.

Artist statement:
“My interest in dance technique and choreography led to the creation of these dolls. Because I am a dancer, I wanted to make them as technically correct as possible.”

About the Dolls
Each doll is one-of-a-kind and is made into a graceful dance position en pointe, such as, arabesque, sous-sus, passé, attitude and jeté.
A wire base becomes the form, the forms are covered in cloth, and stuffed. The cloth bodies are quilted, embellished or stamped with fabric paint making each one unique. All of the dolls’ costuming is original and much of it made from vintage clothing. Faces are hand embroidered.
Dolls are approximately 20” in height.
