........ring the bells that still can ring
forget your perfect offering
there is a crack in everything
thats how the light gets in.........
Lace has a way of making you question your mental faculties and just when you get to the brink of hopelessness, suddenly “you get it”. You see the silly error.
Each lace repeat for Muir is 32 rows long. I’ve finally gotten through the first two without frogging.
Then something else was picking at the edge of my mind: the color. I ordered cranberry, but this yarn is more like a raspberry and raspberry is dangerously close to pink. I am not a big fan of pink and just as I was about to get my panties all in a twist, one of Pema Chodron’s slogans came to mind: ”Don’t be so predictable.“ I always think of this slogan when I feel a strong aversion to something. So I began to examine why I had such an aversion to this ”raspberry“? ...Well
It is too close to pink.
Pepto Bismo is pink.
Pink rhyms with stink.
Bright pink belongs on flowers
or Barbie
or....(I could go on...)
When I listened to my “reasoning”, I saw the light again. The yarn is not pink. Its RASPberry! I could have sent the yarn back and requested another color, but I decided to give raspberry a chance. We made a compromise and chose to make a smaller Muir. The beads don’t do much on such a vibrant color either, but I used them anyway just for the experience.
After the compromise I still struggled with raspberry and frowned at her in disgust, but somewhere along the way I began to soften. I started to like it....NOT A LOT.....but just a little. I’m beginning to think of it as my funky hippie wrap and maybe this aging face needs a brighter color against it. Yes, there is a crack in everything. Thats how the light gets in.
