What can I say? Even though this is a fiber combo that makes some people pull their hair out, I’m in love with kid silk mohair. Yes, this stuff is a nightmare to frog, but to knit it, is a dream. Its light and easy on the hands. This is the second project I’ve done with Rowan’s kid silk. The last major project was a shawl knit from Alchemy Haiku kid silk collection. After working with both, I would have to say hands down that Alchemy Haiku is the superior fiber. It makes a softer more luxurious fabric and the colors are off the hook, but so is the price tag.
So, with that all out of the way. What am I making? ....more lace, but lace with tons of stockinette stitch in the mix. Lace Style’s Feather Light Lingerie Dress. Why am I making this? 60% just for the challenge, 40% more lace! Its a nice light cover up to wear around the house after yoga practice. Believe it or not, this dress requires only 4 skeins of Rowan Kid Silk.
This dress will feed the best of both worlds for me. I love stockinette stitch and have developed an infant lust for lace. The bottom half of the dress is all stockinette done with size 8 needles. Perfect for TV knitting. I’ve started with the bottom skirt and its going incredibly fast. I’ve already finished one half of the skirt in a couple of days. The top portion is a delicate lace pattern done on size 3 needles.
The lace group on Ravelry had an interesting discussion on lace shawls. It seems as though an overwhelming number of people who make shawls have mixed feelings about wearing them in public (myself include, especially since I’m fast approaching the over 50 crowd). As beautiful as it is, unfortunately lace seems to be a beauty that lives in the house. The discussion petered out on a positive note petitioning everyone to bring the shawls out to the public, make a statement, start a new fashion trend. Well...I don’t know...maybe...maybe not. I do enjoy wearing my shawl in the house when my husbands turns the air condition up too high and look forward using it on chilly fall mornings.
Other knitting-
Those lovely Jaywalkers?
Frogged. After a while they just were not doing it for me. I’ll have to learn how to do the classic gusset heel on a different sock pattern.
LYS - I’m looking forward to the Yarn Harlot’s visit to Atlanta, September 19th and a book signing by Kaffe Fassett (undisclosed date) courtesy of Knitch. I’ve got to make a visit to Knitch soon. They’ve renovated the upstairs to accommodate dyeing and felting classes and the growing knit night groups.
