On a wing and a prayer

A few months ago a message was posted in the Mindful Knitters forum on Ravelry calling for knitted hats for Buddhist nuns.

The hats were requested to be knitted in maroon to match the nun’s robes and a simple pattern from Red Threads was chosen.

String of Gems, a group which helps support Buddhist nunneries in Lhasa, were scheduled to deliver the hats in early March.  Just as they began to take their journey, a huge protest erupted in Tibet over the oppressive tactics of Chinese in that country.   Americans and reporters were escorted out of the country and the borders were shut down.

I am sending this hat off anyway in hopes that the atmosphere will lighten in the near future.  If you would like to find out more information about String of Gems, click here.
