It all began with a very unfortunate incident. My dog Lucy, a pit rescued from the streets with a Jekyl and Hyde complex, discovered a litter of kittens while nosing around an abandoned garage on an alleyway in Northern Liberties. Before I knew what what was happening, Lucy had stuck her head in the hole where the kittens where hiding and came out with two in her mouth! Unfortunately neither of the kittens made it, but there were two others and their mom. I had no idea about TNR or feral cats verses strays. I just felt responsible for helping this feline family. I was put in touch with a someone in the neighborhood who had been trapping ferals and she showed me the ropes. I set the trap and caught the kittens the first night. I continued to set the trap in this alley during the next year. About 40 cats later I finally got the mom! She had had two more litters in that time, which I trapped and adopted out. The other cats I trapped were spayed or neutered and released. When it appeared my work was done in the alley, I began noticing feral cats everywhere! I moved on to other projects. all over the city. When I got to 100 cats, I stopped counting. There are always more. The effort never stops. It can be overwhelming, but I believe that every little effort does help.
I have met many amazing people and cats along the way who continue to motivate and inspire me. My son who grew up accompanying me on cat trapping stake outs, has helped me persevere with his love for all the cats that pass through our lives.
Along with the TNR, we foster friendly cats and work on finding them loving homes. This website it dedicated to all the cats whose paths have crossed ours. The cats posted on this site are available for adoption.
