Scholarship Fund
A Philanthropy of the Dallas County Medical
Society Alliance Foundation

Established in 1954, the Edith Cavell Scholarship Fund is dedicated to providing scholarships to exceptional nursing students in Dallas, Texas and the surrounding area. To date, nearly 1,350 scholarships have been awarded. Many of these young men and women would not have been able to attend nursing school without the scholarship award. With a critical shortage of registered nurses in North Texas, the scholarship awards are now more important than ever before.
Many bright and compassionate students want to enter the nursing profession, but are unable to do so due to the high cost of nursing school. Baccalaureate nursing programs in the Dallas area can range from $17,000 to $33,000 annually (based on 2007-2008 tuition rates). Whether as a donor or a scholarship applicant, your support of the Edith Cavell Nursing Scholarship Fund can help put an end to the critical nursing shortage.
Scholarship recipients are selected annually every spring following a comprehensive application and interview process. Applicants must exhibit strong academic standing, financial need and honorable character. Our scholars come from diverse backgrounds, but are united by a dedication to the profession of nursing. Many of our former scholars have continued their education and taken positions in nursing education, advanced practice and nursing leadership.
The Edith Cavell Nursing Scholarship Fund is a 501c3 (non-profit) organization and all donations are tax deductible. The fund is a program of the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance and Foundation (DCMSA&F), the oldest operating medical society alliance in the nation.
