Drop (excerpt) Dana Jessen, bassoon Katarina Miljkovic, laptop Boston CyberArts Festival, NEC 4/2007 Drop (2007) is based on pre-recorded sounds of a bassoon and an old field recording of a woman from Serbia singing a lament with microtonal insertions typical for this region. The title refers to many characteristics of the piece. The form being most out of wich its flow, beginning with scattered recording fragments simply “dropped” into the piece that slowly morphes, toward the end, into a pedal tone. The composition is written for Dana Jessen, a great instrumentalist and improviser.
