back to music The entire piece is based on a time measurement of a breathing cycle of a performer. Breathing through a saxophone at the beginning of the piece models the first section. Reproduced on multiple scales, the gesture generates all aspects of the piece. A driving force of the development of the entire piece is the proportion between time periods of inhaling and exhaling. The ratio generates a metric module projected to the relationship between sounds, sections and large scale design. Dynamics and sound density constantly oscillate from an almost imperceptible level to full intensity followed by the decrease and arrest. I am thankful to Kent O’Doherty who dedicated much time to search and invent sounds that would best bring out the concept of the piece.
