WELCOME Ana Correa (Yuyachkani): Rosa Cuchillo (Rosa Blade) Women’s Performance in the Americas: Actions of Transfer, Nov 22 (2008), University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA). KARPA is a free online critical journal devoted to the prolific cultural production of the various Latin-American and Iberian Cultures. Karpa is a quechua word meaning “tent” in Spanish. “Tent theater” (Carpa) was very popular during the 1920s and 30s in Mexico and the US South. Like vaudeville, performances included comedians, political satire, singing, dancing, puppet shows, and acrobatics. Inspired by this type of theater Karpa focuses on dissident views from/about Latin American and Iberian cultures. We accept articles, reviews and interviews on political cabaret, theater, dance, performance art, action art, street interventions, graffiti, cinema, photography, and the multiple theatricalities implicit in social practices. These may be written in Spanish, Portuguese or English. Visual and written materials by artists are welcome with no page-limit restrictions.
