This year in each class we will be focusing on a global concern of the student’s choice. The purpose of this focus is to apply mathematical principles to the our lives, but also to be more aware of globally concerns in our backyard as well as around the world. Although the topic is selected by each student, both myself and parents must agree on its suitability. Topics may include one of the following or another topic of the student’s choice:

~AIDS in South Africa

~Lost Boys of the Sudan

~Invisible Children

~Vaccinations (either here in the U.S. or abroad)

~Poverty

~Literacy

~Human Rights in China

~Animal Cruelty

~Immigration

~Abortion

~World Famine

~Genocide

~Etc.

These topics are difficult, but what a great opportunity during the school year to engage in healthy critical thinking and discussion to become truly educated using mathematics.
