DR. DON & ELIZABETH KANTEL

Iris Ministries, N. Mozambique

2009

Don and Elizabeth have been connected with Heidi and Rolland Baker and Iris Ministries in various ways since 1999. They were previously Iris missionaries in Maputo and have been based in Pemba, in Northern Mozambique, since 2005.

Don and Elizabeth both have graduate degrees in leadership and are committed to raising up and equipping Mozambicans to lead their nation into the fulness of God’s purposes in the decades ahead. In particular, they recognize that children are the hope and future of Africa so they are investing themselves to infuse godly character in the younger generation to enable today’s children to become tomorrow’s leaders for Mozambique and Africa.

Although Don and Elizabeth are involved in many other aspects of Iris--Don as associate director of the huge Pemba base and Elizabeth as coordinator of long-term missionaries for all of Iris--their passion is to be catalysts for lasting Christian transformation in Mozambique. For that reason, the information in this website will focus on the “Mieze Model”   developed in 2007-8 and its continued application in Mieze and elsewhere in 2009 and beyond.

Welcome to our personal ministry site!

The “Mieze Model” is a comprehensive prototype for transformational village ministry developed in the community of Mieze about 20 km from the Iris Pemba base.

The model is built around a strong Iris church with a godly pastor. The key additional components include

  1. orphan-village for 35-40 children

  2. potable water supply

  3. weekly medical outreaches

  4. community health program

  5. food program for village orphans and vulnerable children

  6. program to increase access to schooling for poor children

  7. evangelistic outreach to village children

  8. children’s playground and soccer field

  9. chicken, goat and vegetable farming...all lovingly offered in Jesus’ name

Each of these key ingredients is described in the pages that follow.
