The purpose was to deliver ceiling panels for a church under construction, but our mission director invited Edson and I to come along and hold clinics. We had with us Elizabeth and Ruth, our 2 interns, as well as Erin, a visiting nurse from the US and PAZ missionary Ruth Reutter as her translator. We were able to see 35 patients in the health clinics, while Edson saw 21 patients in the dental clinics. Aside from that, we had great fellowship and down time swimming in the beautiful Tapajós River. For those of you that don’t know the area, the Tapajós River is a tributary of the Amazon River. Whereas the Amazon water is brown and muddy with a higher bug habitat, the Tapajós is blue and sandy! Whenever we travel on the Tapajós, we all take our baths right in the river! Being a missionary does have it’s perks : )

HEALTH CLINICS

We headed out early Tuesday morning, June 17, on a 6 hour journey to the Amazon river village of Mirí. With us we had a visiting team from Journey Fellowship, as well as short and long term PAZ missionaries. The plan was for the all-male Journey Fellowship team to work on the church construction, under the direction of our national worker, Joaquim. Edson and I were leading a medical and dental clinic, with the help of Ruth and Elizabeth, and PAZ missionary Isaiah Huber was leading the filter delivery.

We had 3 full days of clinics. In the dental clinic, Edson saw 80 patients, with Ruth assisting him. Elizabeth and I were able to see 150 patients in the health clinics. Praise God!

CHURCH CONSTRUCTION

The goal was to finish the walls of the church, build the trusses and put them up, and to lay the concrete floor. There was some setback in getting the wood, so unfortunately the trusses did not get up, but thankfully after 3 full days of work, the walls were completed and the concrete set.

WATER FILTERS

We brought 40 filters with us on the boat. PAZ missionary Isaiah Huber worked with PAZ Pastor Ronaldo and the local worker Maria Alcineide in getting all the filters delivered and installed into the homes. I spent some time with Maria training her in on our new supervision procedures. The filters are such a great tool for evangelism, bringing us into the hearts and homes of many in the river villages.
