“Reality leaves a lot to

  the imagination.”

                              John Lennon

I was born and raised with close family ties and nurturing in Batavia New York; Catholic grade school and high school education, early music training and participation in numerous music competition culminated with my winning the World Cup (Coupe Mondiale) for accordion as the Accordion Teacher’s Guild USA representative in Caracas, Venezuela in 1972.  Undergraduate college years were spent at the University of Toronto/Faculty of Music from 1974-1979, marriage to my wife – Carol – in 1978, and the birth of our son – Justin – in 1985.

Our relocation to California in 1979 enabled a series of professional opportunities beginning with hands-on work at the audiophile manufacturing companies of Sumo Electronics and the M&K Sound Corporation, work and support from the pioneering American company, SoundStream, Inc. in helping develop and utilize the very first PCM Digital Audio recording/editing systems, resulted in several self-performed/produced audiophile quality digital audio recordings.  Many music performances over the years to the present time; including, as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, playing classical accordion.

In 1984, began a career in the Hollywood Film/TV post-production industry; first, with the manufacturing/software development & editorial services company called SpectraImage/LaserEdit involving operation of Optical Disc Corporation’s Write-Once LaserDisc recorders for use in the off-line edit servicing of hundreds of Hollywood TV shows as well as the development of a quick-turnaround multimedia single-copy LaserDisc transfer service business.  Later, after LaserEdit’s merger with Pacific Video, forming LaserPacific; served in sales/ marketing/ managerial and entrepreneurial roles; migrating to MPEG-1/CD-i movie encoding services utilizing an IBM SuperComputer for the world’s highest quality video compression.

Completed a MBA in Marketing/Management at Woodbury University in Burbank during evenings and weekends from 1994-1996; studying with several professors who instilled in me the values of enlightened servant leadership.

In 1996, was hired to serve as Operations Manager for the Sony Pictures DVD Center in Culver City, California.  Participated as an integral part of, and working with, senior engineers from Sony Japan in the simultaneous development of the Sony DVD Encoding/Authoring system/software; while establishing/navigating/providing the DVD departmental servicing needs of various Sony content companies; managing the processing of hundreds of early Sony DVD titles; including the successful launch of Sony’s first NTSC and PAL format DVD-Video products to the marketplace.

In 1998, along with my brother Joe, formed our own company called speeDVD, which continues to provide DVD-Video creation/compression/authoring services for Hollywood Studios/Distribution companies as well as corporate/independent clientele.  Early on, purchased, consulted with, and utilized DVD systems from a company called Spruce Technologies, Inc.; establishing an ongoing, close, mutual relationship with the sales, technical, management and engineering/R&D teams there.  To August of 2009, speeDVD has provided services on over 2,000 DVD titles.

Applied reason, intelligence and the cultivation of intuitive creative thought, energy and constructive argument put into practical practice have always driven my life.  Creative expression through computer-based musical compositions, called ‘SoundSketches’, and creative writing essays and free-verse poetry; these collections and numerous self-performed/produced audio recordings are published and available for sale/download in audioCD, MP3 and e-book formats on sites such as smashwords.com, createspace.com and amazon.com.

My life experience is the culmination of living one day to the next; ever thankful and appreciative for the help, care, guidance, and love provided from parents, family, friends, strangers, teachers and mentors; who, all along the way, have generously shared their thoughts, knowledge, insight, and excitement for life with me; instilling an on-going lust for learning.  It is my intention and hope my own efforts have and do continue this chain; offering value and service to others too.
