“Wondering What to Wish For”
Acrylic on four canvases.

I love stars - they are happy symbols. They twinkle and sparkle and represent our belief that our wishes can indeed come true if we wish hard enough.

Stars have been prominent icons in my art for a long time (see below), and since I wanted to use them so much, I had to learn to draw them. Because they are 5-pointed, they seem a little harder to draw than some things, but really, they’re not.

So my treat for you today is a YouTube video that is an excerpt from my Art School 101 Workshop. It will teach you to draw fail-proof, lovely stars in no time. Notice I did not say “perfect” stars because they do not have to be perfect - a little personality never hurt any star.
These two little watercolors made use of the salt technique to create the background “galaxies”, but I still had to draw the stars that she could get her hands on.

This gal was my self portrait when I first moved to Santa Fe.

The painting on the right was auctioned off at Art Unraveled a couple years ago.

Hopefully, these paintings make you want to learn to draw stars which you can do by watching this video:

And if you feel inspired to learn to draw other things, a new session of Art School 101 for the Journal and Sketchbook is scheduled to begin January 10, and we’d love to have you join us.
Also, since it is the holiday season and all, we will be showing you how to makes some little ornaments and gift items with those stars you draw, so practice a little and stay tuned!

Until next time . . .
