Mission
(1967-Present)

The Junior Arts Center believes that the most essential purpose of art activity for the young is the creation of an atmosphere in which young people can stretch their minds and imaginations, to make informed choices, and develop fully as creative and participating human beings. The Junior Arts Center’s atmosphere stimulates self-responsibility for creative activity and involvement by the young, who are too often alienated in the traditional educational program. Some of the Center’s older students have already turned on the path of becoming excellent young artists. Others, inclined towards different professions, have learned a greater appreciation of the arts in their lives.

The Junior Arts Center Gallery strives to offer engaging exhibitions for viewers of all ages. Particular emphasis is placed on creating exhibitions with easy accessibility for young people involving unique approaches to design and participation for the viewer.

Classroom instruction is offered at the Junior Arts Center in its six studios.
All classes are taught by professional artists with recognized expertise in their medium,
and who are gifted with that particular ability and sensitivity for working with young people.

The JAC’s location within beautiful Barnsdall Art Park lends itself
to a variety of festivals, celebrations and family outings.

Classes are offered four times a year: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Registration for Summer 2009 begins Saturday June 20, 2009
