The Pub today bears little resemblance to the old village inn of many years ago, although the outside has not changed a great deal, and the old blacksmiths anvil block still stands in the grounds of the old cottage, now an extension of the dining rooms.
It is difficult to establish the true age of the pub, but it is known that a local family were landlords here early in the nineteenth century, around 1825, and a recent survey done on the roof areas established that some of the timbers used, were from ships, and possibly over 600 years old.
In the early years the ground at the rear was used as a site for a fair with stalls for visiting tradesmen, and gave host to the man with the performing bear!
Life was often difficult with no electricity, gas, buses or telephones, and so great importance was put upon local inns to provide a service to the community.
Today the pub is still a traditional family run concern, with good home cooked food, hand pulled ales and a wood burning fire.
