Unfortunately the u60kg player couldn’t get to the competition so the mens team was down one player and the womens team down two (-48 & -52), i guess there’s no small people in the military!
There were some strong players at the competition which was eventually won by the north west men and South women (i think, maybe north women!) The combined services walked away with a bronze for the men and a bronze for the women, we think this is our best result ever so we are pretty pleased. Reflection has already started, via facebook obviously so that we can prepare for next year. We will have two full teams and remove any weak links we might have :) Next year our medal tally will be better so watch this space!
We would like to thank our sponsors, the colour house, who sponsor the army team, Threads embroidery who supported the combined services with kit and the sports control boards who funded the training, travel etc.

It started with weight training, pyramids again which most of the players seem to enjoy. The team has also had some of the other players arrive, Lt. Mark Shaw (RN), Amey Garcia (RAF), Jonny Morris and Francesca Sieloff (both Army).
In the afternoon the team had a presentation from Katrina McDonald (University of Bath) an the structure of a contest which the team enjoy and found valuable.
The final part of the day was evening randori, this gave the ‘newcomers’ a chance to get back into the swing of thing on a vertical learning curve. Mike Callan, who was taking the session start the tachiwaza with the whole team out the front! The other good news tody was that Threads Embroidery (www.threadsembroidery.co.uk) have offered to supply the entire team with combined services polo shirts and chest patches. Overall a very good day with the team feeling in high spirits.

We promise to download some of the pics and add them here as none of us can surf anyway.
The day has been good today, a fantastic judo session from Patrick Roux that incorporated some of the problem we had faced against TeamBath players in randori.
The final session of the week is in the gym and then we have a whole weekend off :)
Hopefully we will have more members of the combined services team here next week, the full team should be here by Wednesday.

The session was a technique session led by Jane and fortunately relatively easy physically. The soldiers appreciated this and was pleased that Jane had identified the need for an easier session.
Just the evening randori to go!......
