I was first up in the morning. Commercials are crazy in regards to the amount of money and attention that go into creating 30 seconds of film. There were about 30 extras (who, god bless them, are always slightly weird), a crew of 20 and a ton of equipment. It’s the closest thing in my life to my old days of playing basketball. When you wake up in the morning it feels like game time and there is a bunch of pressure. I actually love it.
The racer’s name is Michael Waltrip. Which sucked because I constantly wanted to call him Michael Wallstrip (like the famous Lindsay Campbells successful web show for those of you who don’t know it). I had to say my first line in my head before every single take because I was positive I would say “Wow! Michael Wallstrip!”. Luckily I never called him wallstrip.
Michael was a natural. Which is great because often you see commercials that use a non-actor celebrity who are really terrible. But he was improving with me as much as I was with him. It was a lot of fun and the director and people from Napa seemed very happy with it. I should hopefully have a copy within 3 to 4 weeks and will post that as soon as I can.
Thanks for checking out the blog.
Here are the principals with the director. You can see my ridiculous homemade shirt with Michael’s picture on it and Michael standing behind me.
