CHANTS FROM THE DEEP FOREST

Waorani means "The People." They are Ecuador's most recently contacted tribe and, consequently, the most vulnerable of Ecuador's Indigenous forest people. Their language has no linguistic affiliation to any other language in the world. The tribe numbers aprox 1,200 people living in two million acres of primary, tropical Amazonian Rainforest. Today there still exist several non-contacted clans who choose to remian in isolation. All the Waorani communities and even the remote non-contacted clans face daily pressures and assaults from the encroachment of multinational petroleum corporations. They are bring severely impacted by Colombian and Ecuadorian timber barons, which are penetrating deeper and deeper into their rainforest home. Sadly In May 2003, 23 Taromenane, of the last non contacted clan were massacred, and again in Feb of 2008, 9 more were murdered. All from greedy timber barons, illegally poaching timber in lands declared by the government as non tangible zone. Will this madness ever end?

Samples of Waorani Waaponi acapella chanting to bring peace to the troubled Amazon basin.
