Cambodia 2006
Cambodia still struggles to come back after a devastating decade under the rule of Pol Pot, who is responsible for over 3 million Khmer deaths. His rule was made possible by the huge power vacuum created when the Americans left the Peninsula in 1975, a real eye opening example of the devastating result of our military’s withdrawal.
Angkor Watt is one of the most amazing structures on Earth, left by the Khmer people who ruled Asia around the turn of the first millennium. At the time they had conquered more land that Napolean ever got and were a rich Empire. They once sat as kings, but now toil the land as its slave.
An amazing place in Siem Reap is the Angkor Childrens Hospital, an incredible hospital staffed by volunteer Western doctors as well as Khmer doctors and nurses .
Yet another amazing look into the Khmer life can be had at the Land Mine Muesum. Please check out what the hero Akira is doing over there, at least by visiting their website.
This video, Cambodia 2006, was shot in 2005. while I was traveling through the country with my good friends John Langdon and Kyle Turnipseede.
The military sells their armory to Westerners in order to make money, all behind closed doors of course. Angkor Watt marvels the imagination and these victims of land mines would still beat me in soccer..
