In the course of pursuing my research interests I have developed new instruments and assessment techniques to assess various phenomena. Here are brief descriptions of the measures along with links for downloading copies.

STOMP
To assess individual differences in music preferences, I developed the Short Test of Music Preferences (STOMP), which is a paper-and-pencil style survey that measures people’s preferences for broad styles of music. Scores on the STOMP are strongly related to preferences for music clips and music collections. Click on the links for copies of the original STOMP, the revised STOMP, and the STOMP validation paper.

MPM
In collaboration with Lew Goldberg, I’ve developed the media preferences measure (MPM), which assesses preferences for various types of music, film, books, and television programs. Scores on the MPM capture preferences for five latent dimensions of entertainment. I will post the manuscript describing the MPM once it’s in press. In the meantime, click on the link for a copy of the MPM.

TIPI
Sam Gosling and I developed a short measure of the Big Five personality dimensions called the Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI). Results from several studies, using multiple methods, measures, and samples, indicate that the measure is reliable and shows high convergence with other Big Five measures. Click on the links for copies of the TIPI and validation paper.

BLIRT
Bill Swann and I developed the Brief Loquaciousness and Interpersonal Responsiveness Test (BLIRT), a personality measure that assesses individual differences in verbal impulsivity. Results from a series of studies suggest that the measure is a reliable and valid measure of interpersonal behavior.
