The STOP program was designed for men and women who have been convicted of stalking or stalking-related criminal offenses. The focus of treatment is offense-specific: clients are assisted in accepting responsibility for their obsessional harassment, are helped to understand the emotional and situational precipitants to their behavior, and are taught skills of self-management to help them refrain from engaging in similar behavior in the future.
Dr. Reavis has created what is thought to be the only 'stalking-specific' curriculum in the nation, which incorporates cognitive-behavioral and relapse-prevention elements, as well as elements from attachment theory, thought to be central to the understanding of those who pursue their prior sexual partners.
