Wake County Cerebral Palsy Support Group
Welcome to Wake County’s Cerebral Palsy Support Group!
We are so happy you found us. I would like to take a moment to tell you a little bit about our group. It is a great place to come if, like the rest of us, you find yourself going down a path you never thought you would and are coming to terms with how hard that can be. For those of you new to Wake County, or realize you need a support mechanism, or if you just want to find a parent who has been there, done that- we’re the group for you! We welcome anyone whose child has a special need- whether it is a physical limitation, developmental delay, etc. We have families from all over the spectrum of Cerebral Palsy as well as other disabilities/diagnoses. Our doors are open to anyone looking for a support group.
I started this group three years ago. I wanted to meet parents who understood my daily joys and struggles. I felt previously I had not made that connection. I also wanted my son Tristan to have the opportunity to meet other kids who had similar needs so he could build friendships too. I knew I would also want my other children to meet siblings of kids with special needs to and nurture those relationships too. Simply, I wanted a place to call home. Somewhere I could share my cares and worries and feel validated and understood, while at the same time provide support to other families through my own experiences. This is that place for me and hopefully it will be for you too.
Our monthly meeting at Michael Dean’s (in one of their private rooms) is for parents or care providers only. We do meet socially several times throughout the year as families. We have an annual spring cookout and a holiday/winter party. In the past, we have had group family outings, like rollerskating, so our children can socialize with their new friends.
Please feel free to call or write me with any questions you might have.
I look forward to seeing you all there,
Rachel
Mother to Tristan, Ella, and Landyn
