These pages are dedicated to the memory of my dear friend and mentor, Fernando Montes, the Bolivian artist, whose kind, wise, and gentle spirit touched so many of those who knew him. During the countless talks, walks, and experiences we shared, Fernando always reminded me to “trust life”. He also often said that sharing, whether a piece of bread, a great film or concert, or a significant and difficult challenge, was one of the most important elements of what makes us truly human. Thank you, Fernando, for teaching me and for sharing with me so much.
