December 11, 2007 Fort Worth City Council Meeting
THE LAKE WORTH ALLIANCE WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT TO MAKE THE DECEMBER 11TH CITY COUNCIL MEETING SUCH A ROUSING SUCCESS!

This was the last presentation the Lake Worth Alliance will make to the Fort Worth City Council before it votes on proceeding with the dredging of Lake Worth. Public turnout was crucial to LWA’s success, and you responded by providing a standing-room-only crowd on a cold and rainy night. The impression on the Council was undeniable. The meeting and large public turnout were featured on the December 11, 2007 ten o’clock news broadcasts of CBS Channel 11 and ABC Channel 8, as well as on WBAP Radio and in the December 12, 2007 issue of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Thank you for your continued support; with your help, a clean and sufficiently deep Lake Worth will soon become a reality!

It is critical that we retain this momentum to keep the dredging of Lake Worth and the vision of the Lake Worth Parks System in the spotlight. THE RACE FOR GREEN SPACE

The first annual Lake Worth Monster Dash was a big success! Over 400 runners came out to support the protection and preservation of green space around the lake while enjoying a beautiful new run route. Councilman Carter Burdette joined the festivities, with fact-filled information in the Vision tent and face painting for the kids. Even the Lake Worth Monster came out of hiding to join the fun!

Lake Worth Dock Issues

Objectives and Comments

For the past year or so, the City of Fort Worth has been reviewing Lake Worth area docks and procedures for designing, permitting and building docks. This process is in the broader context of the future “vision” of what Lake Worth could be and will be, and specifically related to the Lake Worth Comprehensive Improvement Implementation Plan (LWCIIP). The intent is to develop guidelines in collaboration with LW area residents and stake holders designed to improve safety and developmental standards which we all hope and expect will lead to greater enjoyment and value going forward.

Paul Bounds, Fort Worth’s Environmental and Regulatory Coordinator in the Water Department, sent around an email to the Lake Worth Dock Steering Committee.  Access to the information included in the email has been provided in the links below.  To view a copy of this email, click here.  Of vital importance is the second paragraph, clearly stating the public aspect of the meetings surrounding dock issues.

We urge you all to learn about these initiatives on your own. Individually read related information. Become informed. Attend the meetings that are related to this, and make sure your area Neighborhood Association’s president or representative expresses your concerns correctly and articulately at these meetings. Dock Issues “Steering Committee” members have been chosen by each NA. And other area stakeholders have Steering Committee Representatives, e.g. Fort Worth Sailing Club. At this time, all meetings are open to the public.
