NEWS & INFORMATION

The goals of Lake Worth Alliance are simply stated:

1. To get Lake Worth cleaned and dredged.

  1. 2.To have undeveloped, city-owned land around Lake Worth preserved for future parkland. View Mission Statement.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT

January 11, 2008

Fort Worth City Council’s formal vote on January 8, 2008 to approve M&C G-16013, “Adoption” of Amendments to the Gas Well Revenues Distribution Policy of the City of Fort Worth,” was profoundly significant for the future of the Lake Worth Area. And although much remains to be done toward the vision of Lake Worth becoming a clean and adequately deep lake surrounded by hundreds of acres of undeveloped green space and parkland, we-Lake Worth Alliance leadership-are feeling pretty good.  We’re very proud to have played a part in where we are today. And really, everyone who’s been involved can and should be proud.

For specific information about gas revenue policy and distribution, click here to read M&C G-16103. Section 4, i. contains language most relevant to our interests out here. “All revenue derived from Water and Sewer assets will be appropriated fifty percent (50%) to Water and Sewer capital projects fund. Notwithstanding the above, funds from Water and Sewer property and park land located in and around Lake Worth (except the Nature Center and Refuge) shall be designated for qualified expenditures in the development and execution of the 2007 Lake Worth Capital Improvements Implementation Plan, until such time as the plan projects are completed.”

So, Bravo!! That’s for all who’ve “caught the vision.” That’s for Fort Worth Mayor Moncrief and City Council - especially Carter Burdette - City Staff, the media and the thousands who’ve supported this initiative.  It IS exciting.  And thanks, too, Barnett Shale.  You’ll be making this and a lot of other good and necessary things possible.  Yes, indeed, we WILL have a truly world-class park out here.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

Lake Worth “Vision Plan”

Recently, the Planning Department for the City of Fort Worth delivered a Draft to all the “Stakeholders” involved in the development of this effort. Meetings have taken place among the planners and stakeholders. This process will continue.

Link to “Vision Plan” Draft:

http://www.fortworthgov.org/planninganddevelopment/misc.aspx?id=70200

This link also includes recorded Public Comments from the October 22, 2009, FW Planning Department’s Public Meeting at Brewer High School.

We urge you to read both carefully. It can be helpful to print both the comments and the “LW Vision Plan” Draft itself due to its length. This facilitates examination.

The Planners involved will be scheduling individual meetings with Lake Worth area Neighborhood Associations to discuss their interests and concerns. It is of great importance that you, as residents and/or interested parties, become involved with your area NA in order for your input to be most effectively heard.  Make sure that those Directors and Officers have received your recommendations/thoughts/concerns. If you don’t actively participate, you are accepting that those officers are still “speaking for you.”

Lake Worth Alliance Board of Directors has already hosted one meeting in October and we will be hosting another meeting on Thursday, December 17th, 2009. Recommendations from these meetings will be posted on this site soon.

These are very exciting, but critical days, for us out here and the entire city. Decisions will be made that will be hugely far-reaching. Again, we urge you to be very much involved in this process. Inform yourself. Stay organized with your Neighborhood Association.

Fort Worth Weekly, January 27, 2010

For those of you responding to the story “Greetings From Lake Worth,” and /or LWA’s  follow-up ad, thanks for stopping by. Below is a Letter to the Editor that Joe Waller wrote following the publication of Mr. McGraw’s Fort Worth Weekly piece.

Check that out too if you haven’t seen it. Consistent with all you’ve read, our objectives include to facilitate Fort Worth’s development of a “Great Park” for all of us citizens to enjoy.

You can help us by:

Advising us that you wish to be notified by email of Lake Worth Alliance and Lake Worth activities/meetings related to our objectives. Periodically, there are activities out here which many would enjoy. Sometimes we ask that folks gather at City Council to support our appeals.

Getting Involved. Send us an email telling us of your interests and skills. We certainly would appreciate any volunteer offers and have areas in which everyone could help. (Any accountants out there? Grant writers? Lawyers? Cooks, really just tell us how you would like to help.

Easiest and significantly important--Send a financial contribution to our non-profit organization to Lake Worth Alliance, P.O. Box 150683, Fort Worth, Texas 76108. No minimums…everything helps us cover our operating expenses. (No one is paid. Expenses cover promotional efforts only.)

Please do continue browsing this website to better understand who we are, what we’ve already accomplished and what our goals are going forward. We’ve got some major updating to do to the site, but you can get a great idea of what we’re about.

And thanks again for your interest,

Joe Waller

President, and on behalf Officers and the Board of Directors, LWA
