Subsonic Groove Thang
The title comes from the bass line, which was inspired by a track my friend Jeff Newkirk has been working on. I think its the first appearance of my 8-string bass on a track, and I believe I will re-record my other tracks with it. There’s just something interesting about the tone that comes out of an 8-string, as every note is an octave pair. Plus I like it, and that’s all that matters. I also downloaded PodFarm from Line 6 today and experimented with tone for a while. The rhythm guitar uses a modified “Another Brick in the Wall” preset (and is played in that style), while the bass is actually a dual amp model so the high strings cut through. The lead guitar is one messed up tone with some octave fuzz and some stereo spread chorus on it. I added a little extra midi keyboard playing this time out, and decided to do the drums entirely in midi for a change, using a combination of kits to get close to the sound I wanted.
A week after first recording it, I decided to re-record the main guitar theme and tweak the hi hats and crash cymbals.
