Low End Groove
I picked up a Schecter Stiletto 5-String Bass at Guitar Center this weekend. Just doing my part to stimulate the economy, I guess. The bass isn’t pictured to the right, but is basically the same model, so it looks almost exactly the same as the 8-string bass that’s shown.
This track started from the idea that playing the low B string could make for an interesting groove. I also used my baritone guitar on this track, using the neck pickup and rolling the tone back a little on parts. A normal bass guitar invades the sonic space of the baritone, so the low B was definitely useful here.
My first effort involved some sloppy late-night playing, so I went back and rerecorded things a day later, drastically altered some guitar parts and I think its better now. I also took out the midi B3 organ because it didn’t work as well with the newer recording. I might rerecord that to better fit the mix, and I’m also thinking of a solo section near the end that would lead into the finish. And some day, I will discover variety in the drums. Pity Apple’s loops didn’t have any variations on this loop, or fills I could have used. Or maybe I didn‘t search long enough. Well, maybe when Ocean Way Drums arrives I can program something.
