Five7
2000-2001
Live at the Red Devil Lounge
released 2001
Keith Hayman and I found a bass player, Les Bloome and a drummer, Matty Herman and began to play as Five7. Our first gig was at a pizza joint (Video), and we practiced in a 6’X6’ box beneath Keith’s sister’s apartment in Noe Valley. Though, maybe not the most upscale of circumstances for a band initially, we had a great group of guys and played some great music that we called “ FRAZZIN” (funk, rock, jazz, latin).

The Second Coming...
2001-2003
When my band, Five7, decided to move to New York City, we changed our name (for me, back) to Mostly Water, got a new rhythm section and took a bite out of
“The Big Apple”.

Spritle & His Wagon
Completed 1996
Inspired by The Man Who stepped into Yesterday (a rock opera by Trey Anastasio of Phish), I spent the summer of my junior year at Northwestern composing my own rock opera. I ultimately formed a five piece band my senior year called Of Sane Mind, and performed this opus at the Dance Marathon Coffeehouse. Though some songs from this rock opera have been played by my other bands, Spritle and His Wagon has only ever been performed once in its entirety.

Hayman Hartman
2000-2003
I met Keith Hayman in the acoustic room of the Guitar Center in SF. We bonded immediately. We are the same age (a year apart), both guitar players from Maryland, enjoy the same music, and both have quirky personalities. Aside from getting a rock band together, we formed an acoustic duo, with Keith on piano and guitar, and myself on mandolin and guitar. Our style was acoustic pop, driven by vocal harmonies and guitar solos.

The First Incarnation...
1996-1999
After graduating from Northwestern University in 1996, I moved to San Francisco to find a band, play music and tour the world. In SF, I met a group of the best people on the planet and we became ”family”. I now refer to this time of my life as the “early years” (of SF). The “family” was very supportive of my music and my band. We all loved music, we partied, we danced, and we had a great time.

The Happy Few
1993-1995
My band in College was The Happy Few. The band included me on guitar and vocals, Matt Reed on guitar and vocals, Steve Shermer on Bass, and Dave Presser on drums. We played a number of different venues at school and in Chicago. We were a fun, party band. Here are a few original recordings we did.

Choral & Barbershop
1985-1992
I started singing in third grade with the St. Paul’s Choir of Men and Boys. It was a paid choir and we were lucky enough to travel to Europe to perform, as well as to the White House to sing for President Ronald Reagan (Photo). I continued singing in high school in a barbershop quartet, doing Valentine’s day performances for hire as well as performing in Guys & Dolls, Grease and The Music Man. Since I don’t own the copyrights to any of the music we sang, I have included photos of the performances and groups.
