The Brake Job
The Brake Job
Instead of replacing my stock rotors and pads with more of the same, I went with some aftermarket parts, and then some:
• ATE Premium Slotted Rotors (front and rear)
•Mintek Redbox Brake Pads (front and rear)
•Helix Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines (front and rear)
•Helix Brake Caliper Bushing Replacement Kit (front and rear)
I got everything through Helix motorsports, in Philadelphia, PA.
PROs:
These brakes BITE, and the slotted rotors look really bitchin’, like they’re from a race car. Plus, they’re the same size as stock rotors, so you can reuse existing calipers, etc.
CONs:
The slots make the brakes really loud; there is a constant “thrumming” sound that gets louder as you go faster. Some vibration from the rotors is transmitted through the steering wheel.
CONCLUSION:
While the slotted rotors look really cool, they are simply too loud and rough for a daily driver. They’re more suited to a car that autocrosses or does track days often. If I had to buy new brake rotors tomorrow, I’d go back to stock or normal rotors, for a more comfortable and quieter ride.
