Fart Smelling Mudpits

Krysuvík is in all a very active geothermal area as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge which traverses Iceland diagonally rips right through the area making it a highly active earthquake area. A fissuer zone of sulphur and bubbling hot springs that is known as Seltún.

Allthough foul smelling, Seltún is well worth a visit and a walk around the area. There is a wodden show path up into the area. The sign that warn people to leave the path mean business. The area is hot and hollow, you never know when your foot can go through. On that note it can, by the way be good for foreigners to know that hot tap water coming out of your hotel and domestic fosset in Iceland is around 80 degrees Celcius. Start your shower cold!

The adjacent Grænavatn is an interesting fixture with its luminous green colour. A walk on the beaches of lake Kleifarvatn (that would be the big lake) is highly recommended. Please do not drive onto the beach, Moe and Joe will get you there nicely.
