PORTFOLIO Ray Design Studio is currently working on merchandising the Sonoma County Museum’s Museum Shop in downtown Santa Rosa. Working with Museum staff at SCM, as well as other museum professional, Ray Design Studio is refocusing the Shop to align with the Museum’s mission of “connect[ing] the region’s rich history with contemporary and artistic cultural currents by providing cultural experiences for the enrichment, enjoyment and education of Sonoma County residents and visitors through the preservation of collections and the presentation exhibitions and programs.” Working on the land in western Sonoma County, Ray Design, worked on remodeling a late 1960’s Ranch house. Closed off from the extensive views of surrounding orchards and vineyards, we reworked the exterior living spaces to take advantage of the extensive views. Additionally, the interior of the home was completely remodeled and brought up-to-date without overwhelming the architecture of house or distracting from the views. This San Francisco remodel was in very poor condition when purchased. Last updated in the 1970’s much of the interior of one unit had been destroyed, while the top unit retained all of it’s original woodwork. Ray Design Studio remodeled bathrooms and kitchens in both units, updated lighting, and built-out lower rental unit. The living room of this Noe Valley home had spectacular views but was suffering from an unappealing contractor remodel. Ray Design Studio began by removing substandard materials and awkward partitioning. This resulted in views permeating all rooms with materials that were satisfy to the touch as well as great to move through. Working in the wine country to modernize a family kitchen, Ray Design Studio took advantage of the spectacular West County views and ample footprint to develop this wonderful kitchen, the center of an architecturally designed home. Luscious materials and quality craftsmanship area hallmark of Ray Style. Located in the historic West End District of Santa Rosa, Ray Design Studio’s latest project is visionary. During the late 1960’s, and all during the 1970’s, this late 19th and early 20th century neighborhood saw many historic homes demolished and replaced with multi-unit housing.

Ray Design is working on the transformation of a 1968 duplex into a model of how these late additions to the neighborhood can contribute to the area’s history, not be reminders of past urban planning mistakes. Using Venice Beach as a model, Ray Design Studio is helping to revitalize this quickly changing area of Santa Rosa.
