about

‘ I always tried to infuse something different to any project i did, whatever genre. ’

Quite right indeed – UK based jondimac is a seasoned artist, musician whose presence has graced many venues and stages of all sizes and whose mesmerising and tasty keyboard chops and lead / background tenor vocals skills have backed many artists - famous and infamous.

As an artist in his own right, he possesses the ability to write and compose music that appeals to every demographic. His meticulous attention to detail is second to none and his tunes? One word: catchy.

jondimac was born in Manila, Philippines ( the musical hub of Asia ) to a pair of highly academic parents. The family soon left and settled in Hong Kong where jondimac spent his formative years.

‘ I was quite conscious and aware of what music was very early on. I remember being able to pick out nice chords and key changes, which to this day affect me in all levels. There was a lot of music being played at home on the stereo. Bands like The Bee Gees, The Doobie Brothers, Tom Jones and Don Mclean. As a matter of fact I can easily say that ‘Vincent (by Don Mclean)’ is hands down my all time favourite song. It’s got a great melody ’.

In high school, jondimac was further encouraged by his music / keyboard teacher to know all there is to know about the business, plus it didn’t hurt that the deputy principal was a rock guitarist who invited jondimac to play in his band at weekends.

‘ I was deep into my Fusion, Progressive, AOR and Neo Classical music in high school and I would spend hours and hours locked in my room figuring out licks and honing my chops down. It was a great learning experience. My parents were very supportive and bought me a couple of synthesizers so it was natural that I got into programming and sound design too. ’

jondimac would find any excuse to get up and perform in as many assemblies, school fairs and discos as he could. He would spend much of his free time learning guitar, bass, drums, Chapman stick and when he finished high school, jondimac dove head first into the gig / session scene. It was during this time that he was able to bring his playing to as many people as he could.

‘ Being on stage is like second nature and if the rest of the players are good I could keep playing all night! In saying that, I tried to surround myself with better and seasoned players than I could ever be so I could attempt to keep up and learn at the same time. ’

Seemingly this plan worked and via word of mouth jondimac soon managed to get high profile gigs and sessions. He has to date backed and jammed with such artists as Mick Taylor ( Rolling Stones ), Terry Reid, Jimmy Witherspoon, Vinx ( Sting ), John McEnroe (tennis legend!), Shirley Johnson, Johnny Lima, Darius Rucker ( Hootee and the Blowfish ), Mark Hummel, Caroline Loftus, Digital Cutup Lounge and Clerence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown.

As session musician, jondimac has contributed his song-writing, programming, keyboard and vocal stylings for numerous Asia-Pacific artists such as Jun Kung ( Hong Kong ), Bong Gabriel ( Philippines ), Martin Samykanu ( Malaysia ), Cui Jian ( China ), Guy Le Claire ( Australia ) and has consequently toured extensively with many of these acts around the region. His distinctive keyboard and tenor vocal tracks can still be heard supporting their songs on the airwaves today. Additionally, he has appeared on numerous music videos that are on constant rotation on MTV Asia, StarTV and countless terrestrial, cable and satellite stations.

he has also composed music for various shorts including :
‘the square’
‘departure lounge’
‘david’s day’

in addition he has been commissioned to write music for several
demonstration dvd’s and the cumbernauld college induction dvd

jondimac’s sound design is featured in the
saitek consumer pinball machine

at present (2009) jondimac is involved with these acts :

keyboards for ‘the joy foundation’ ( funk / RnB )
keyboards / vox / chapman stick for ‘scientific dogs’ ( experimental / loop based )

jondimac is also working on his first proper solo album, which should see the light of day before the end of the year. He describes the music as ‘ retro pop / rock with a twist ‘.

he is definitely an artist to watch for.
