Since 2003, when he was invited to be Vice-Chairman of the prestigious British Red Cross London Ball, the British Red Cross’s flagship annual event, James Johnstone has been actively involved in fundraising for the Red Cross and has helped raise nearly £3,000,000.   He was Chairman of the Ball 2004-7 and in that time not only dramatically increased the amount of money raised but also the profile of the Ball.
 
Under his chairmanship the Ball won the following awards:

RSVP Awards 2007: Most Creative Use of Theming and Props for ‘The Secret Garden’ (2006) - Winner

Lake Turkana 2007:  Fishermen trying out their new boat.  This is one of ten new boats.  Each boat is shared by 10 fishermen, providing their families with food and a source of income.
