In the spring of 1993 I began a series of paintings that employed painted photography as the basis for both investigating and formulating subject matter. This grouping of paintings, 7/06 - 11/06, is titled “10 moments from the 20th century.” My goal was to pick ten images that made history, and then paint them with the goal of re-enlarging their original meaning. Each painting, using oil, paper and compound on birch panel, is two feet square. The specific moments the paintings are based on are listed at the bottom of this page.
