Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to go to Leadership Camp 2009!

Please plan to arrive at CWHS @ 7:30am on Friday, July 24th!

Students Taking Medication
Students need to bring their medications the morning of departure in the original pharmacy container, all collected in a plastic bag and be given to the assigned Med-Parent. They will keep all medication and make sure they are given at the appropriate times. If a student has a change in their medication status, the white medication form needs to be updated and a new form signed by their physician!

Leadership Camp Fees
Thank you to everyone who already paid some or all of their camp fee. If you have a balance owed, please bring it to the first day of band camp.

Departure/Return
Plan to arrive at the CWHS Bandroom at 7:30am on Friday, July 24th with all of your luggage. We will depart shortly thereafter. We will hopefully be back to CWHS/Fresno by 4pm on Sunday, July 26th.

Release Forms
Attached is a release form that must be signed by everyone going to camp, including the adults. This is what will allow you to participate in the ropes course activities. I have no way of collecting them before you come for camp, so please make sure you bring them with you! You only need to bring the signed page.

About Camp...

As you've heard by now, we had an amazing experience up at Sierra Outdoor School at the end of July! This is an annual tradition for for selected CWHS Band, Orchestra & Colorguard students. It is a life-changing three days!

Camp is open to all current 9th-11th grade CWHS Band and Colorguard students. If a student is interested in attending camp, they (or their parents!) need to let Mr. Lack know as soon as possible. Selection will be based on student's attitude, character and leadership potential as observed by directors and staff during the school year. Students wishing to attend will need to have band/guard accounts that are current.

Camp is also open to PARENTS! While the parents will serve in a chaperone role, they will also be full participants in the camp experience as well. Space is very limited...let Mr. Lack know right away if you are interested!

Hope you can be a part of this amazing experience!

• What is Band Leadership Camp?
The Clovis West High School Band Leadership Camp is a team building & character skills camp with an emphasis on building trusting, lasting relationships with fellow students, directors and staff. Students go through a series of carefully planned activities that challenge them both physically and emotionally. Campers work through a very busy schedule of activities over the course of the two days. Some activities included are a Ropes (challenge) course, counsel group activities, mini-sessions, Capture the Flag, Skits, to name a few.

• Who should go to camp?
It is recommended that all band & colorguard students try to attend camp sometime during their high school career. Which year to go is best decided by the student and parent based on that students needs. It is our hope that leadership camp is one of the most rewarding experiences a student can have while in the band program.

• When is camp offered?
Right now, band leadership camp is offered during the summer at the end of July. We hope to offer additional camp experiences in the future.

• What kind of supervision is there at camp?
Students are chaperoned by six to eight (or more) directors, parents and staff while at camp.

• Where does camp take place at?
Band Leadership Camp is held at Sierra Outdoor School in Sonora, California. It is located approximately 3 hours north of Fresno.

• Where do the campers sleep?
Students are housed in cabins at the Sierra Outdoor School. Girls and Boys are housed in separate buildings located at different places on campus.

• Who prepares the food while the students are at camp?
The Sierra Outdoor School is fully staffed with a first class kitchen crew preparing well balanced meals to the campers. They serve some of the finest food to be found at a camp. Special foods can be prepared for diabetic or vegetarian campers.

• What does it cost to attend camp?
The fee for leadership camp is $200. The camp fee covers food, lodging and transportation to and from camp. If selected to attend, the fee will need to be paid before school gets out.

• What rules apply to the students while at camp?
Students will adhere to the Clovis West High School Code of Conduct. While the students are at camp they fall under all the expectations that apply when they are at any Clovis West High School function. No drugs, alcohol or tobacco products are allowed during camp.
