TITLE: MERCI Clinic Volunteer

ACCOUNTABLE TO: The Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Volunteers must understand and adhere to the mission of MERCI Clinic, and in a professional manner treat everyone involved with the Clinic with dignity, compassion and respect, as well as maintain as confidential all information regarding the Clinic and its clients.


GENERAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  1. Patient Registration volunteers welcome patients, ensure orderly service, take information necessary to update computers and/or create and pull charts as needed, organize prescription requests and keep all document in order for the clinicians to proceed.

  2. Eligibility Assessment volunteers receive special training in order to conduct private interviews with patients to determine financial eligibility.

  3. Interpreters are volunteers who work with the doctors, nurses. pharmacists and patient registration volunteers to translate for the non English-speaking patients.

  4. Pharmacy volunteers assist and work with licensed pharmacists to fill and refill prescriptions.

  5. Pharmacy Assistance Program volunteers work more specifically to facilitate acquisition of prescription drugs from pharmaceutical companies.

  6. Clinical volunteers are the doctors, nurses, medical technicians, dentists, dental assistants and dental hygenists who manage the medical services, including assessment and diagnosis. These medical providers prescribe necessary medication, perform minor treatment procedures and determine follow-up.

  7. Clerical volunteers work with the Executive Director to keep records in order, answer telephones, assist with fundraising activities, mailings and any other clerical duties, as needed.

  8. Maintenance volunteers help with all necessary upkeep and repairs to the Clinic building and grounds.

  9. Fundraising volunteers assist with fundraising efforts that support MERCI Clinic, Inc.


  10. QUALIFICATIONS: MERCI Clinic volunteers should have the time, desire and ability to assist in the operations of a medical clinic, respecting the confidentiality and privacy of all client information.


  11. TRAINING: Each volunteer will be given orientation and the training necessary to do his/her job efficiently and effectively. They will also be offered ongoing communications, updates and enrichment sessions.
