Renae’s Thoughts: While sitting on the sun deck of the M/S River Anuket as we traveled down the Nile River, I felt like I had been transported to another world.  Small children ran along the banks shouting “Hello! Hello!” while their mothers washed clothes in the river.  Palm trees and sand created the landscape with irrigated fields and small villages often becoming part of it.

Every day was filled with so many images that it was overwhelming at times.  We saw modern Egypt contrasted with the rural areas when we traveled  by train, boat, and bus through the countryside.  Ancient history seemed to be everywhere.  Our guide suggested we may get “templed out” but we never did.  He joked about each new discovery being the “highlight” of our trip but the fact is they were all highlights.

Everywhere we went the Egyptians were welcoming and anxious to make our “holiday” memorable.  And they succeeded.  I hope you enjoy the photos that John took of not just the sights, but of the Egyptian people and their life today.

John’s Thoughts: Egypt is beautiful in it’s own way. We saw the most ancient and largest temple complexes on Earth, sailed on the longest river in the world, visited the “Great” pyramids, and met some of the friendliest, most welcoming people.  As we sailed on the Nile from Quena to Esna we saw daily riverside life unfold as it probably has for hundreds of centuries.
