The price for a warm night is a sleeping bag covered in condensation! Despite removing the blanket (which now doubles as a groundsheet) it is still a little damp as I pack away despite the morning sunshine. Little more than a mile to the Peanmeanach bothy, the return trip takes a good couple of hours. There, I meet only one family of four, but they can hardly be described as ‘chatty’. Water bottles replenished, I head back across Ardnish - no mistakes going in this direction! I reach the road where the footpath sign reads ‘Peanmeanach 3 1/2 miles’ just before 1pm, some twenty hours after I was here last !
The remainder of today is all along the road, but there are some fine views of Loch Ailort and Rois Bheinn beyond. The weather is remarkable, three days of sunrise-to-sunset sunshine and as I walk along the A861, there is a mild breeze which helps. This section is simply a question of keeping going. A steady 2.5 miles an hour should see me at Glenuig between 5:30 and 6:00 and indeed it does. Although today’s distance does not look much, I am tired - I think yesterday took a lot out of me.
The Glenuig Inn is great, 14 real ales for a start! All food is written up on the chalkboard (no plastic menus here) with some interesting choices. The owner, Steve Macfarlane, is into sea kayaking and knows the area well. He is able to provide quite a lot of valuable information for my next couple of days. This section of the coast is so very fragmented that there are choices to be made. After hot smoked salmon and Lamb Tagine, I retire to my very spacious room for a (hopefully) good sleep.
