Church Mission to La Ceiba, Honduras
Members from several north Dallas churches embarked on a one week mission trip to La Ceiba, Honduras on Saturday, February 3, 2007. The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas began this mission five years ago with only a handful of participants. By 2007, the mission has grown to thirty one team members, who went to La Ceiba to serve its community as well as the children at the Holy Trinity Parish Episcopal School.
The participants were divided into three groups, each with it’s own particular task for the trip. The Christian Education, Construction, and Medical teams each spent four and a half days working to assist the community of La Ceiba and the Holy Trinity Episcopal parish, undertaking projects utilizing their own particular skills and callings. We had opportunity for worship, with a Sunday service and a Friday Eucharist service, as well as morning prayer and evening Compline during the week. Wednesday afternoon was set aside to allow participants to take in the sites of the countryside and city and to participate in recreational activities such as white water rafting and a rain forest zip-line canopy tour. Most importantly, we had an opportunity for fellowship and community-building with the people of Honduras, La Ceiba, and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
