College Student Writing Contest
for Wisconsin Undergraduates
Win $150 and read your prize-winning poem or story at the opening banquet for the Wisconsin Local Food Summit in January in Wisconsin Rapids. This contest is co-sponsored by the Northwest Wisconsin Regional Food Network, and Sustainable Literature / Red Cedar programs at the University of Wisconsin - Barron County.
Each year both a poem and a story or creative non-fiction essay will be selected; ALL submissions will also be considered for publication in Red Cedar, UW-BC’s annual journal of the arts and literature, which comes out every May.

Submit Your Work to Red Cedar!
Red Cedar, UW Barron County’s Annual Journal of Arts and Literature will publish its 2009 edition in May, featuring the writing of college students and others from throughout Wisconsin and the northern Midwest, UW-Barron County students, staff, and faculty, and writing from high school students and area residents of Northwest Wisconsin. In addition, Red Cedar will feature the work of several area artists.

Poetry Slam for High School Students

Over a hundred high school students, teachers, and UW-Barron campus students and staff, as well as community members, gathered in the Commons at UW-BC last spring for our First Annual High School Poetry Slam Competition. Every participant will receive free tuition and books for a three day creative writing workshop to be held on the UW Barron County campus in Rice Lake in June, and the top three poets in the competition will win iPods. The event was sponsored by the UW-Barron County Pilot Project on Enrollment and Sustainable Literary / Red Cedar.
