Frequently Asked Questions

Can you still do this stuff? Yes, absolutely!  Ummm...well... I think so. Hmmm.

Is this everything you can do?  Almost.

Is there stuff you used to be able to do that you can’t now?  Of course.

How long did you skate?  Seriously, for six years.

Were you sponsored?  Yes. Two shop-sponsors. Two factories were regularly giving me equipment, but I never was on their official team list.

Why’d you stop skating?  Because I was going away to college, skating was going “out” and I was getting tired of it.

Any serious injuries?  I just broke my pinky one time after the board came up and hit my hand after I flipped it.

Can you ride ramps (a.k.a. half-pipes or “vert”) and do all that stuff I see on TV?  No. I never got into that kind of skating. The stuff in this video used to be called “freestyle” and I also did a lot of “street skating.” Today’s skaters are doing a combination of street and freestyle skating.

Why don’t you wear a helmet? You need to set a good example.  At this point, I have all of my tricks so dialed in. Wearing a helmet would be overkill. I do wear a helmet when I take my son to the skate parks, but only because they are required. I don’t try anything new or difficult - I mainly just protect him from getting run over.

Do you still skate?  Hardly. Only to show other people my past skills and because my son is into it. I rarely use those muscles anymore, so it’s hard to keep all of this up or repeat it all when people want me to “do that one trick AGAIN where you...” That’s why I got a lot of this on film, so I don’t have to do demonstrations anymore. I can just say “watch the video.”
