BikeFit, Testing, & 1-2-1 Testimonials..

"Unbelievable...managed my best average time for 75k yesterday on an undulating (Old A30 Exeter to Whimple return x5) at 24.1 (ks not miles ph)to beat my usual  22.4. So was it that tail wind you talked about or was it the extra helping of bran for breakfast. As the Busselton  course has been described as "flat" I'm hoping to average 23 which would give me a 7hrs 45. (I did 7hrs 43 in Denmark in 2001)

Whatever the outcome the matching red/black wheels make me feel a better cyclist and it's all in the mind.. so I must believe.”

Geoff Gearing, Triathlete, BikeFit session & wheel upgrade, October 2009

Had a good personal result on Sunday at Bude, took the best part of 4mins off last years time, and that was all on the bike. The bike felt (no pun) good, and seemed to go really well, just have to spend some more hours in that saddle, but all in all its going well.   Thanks again for the setup!!”

Lee Shepherd, Triathlete, BikeFit session, June 2009

The results from my power test day with were superb. Joe spent intensive time re-working my set up and made major alterations. After this and coaching through the power test session I know I will significantly increase my power. My best cycling investment this year."

Peter Harding, Ironman Triathlete, PowerTest and 1-2-1 session, December 2008

* Peter qualified for the Hawaii Ironman and completed the event in 13h in October 2009*

"Had to go for a test ride last night. First impressions - much more comfortable than the previous position. I could ac
tually sit in the saddle for once without trying to push myself back into the saddle all the time. I initially had some reservations about the extra height of the saddle. I thought I had it about right and the extra height would cause me more pain, but like for like, there was actually less pain. I used to hate the damn seat now I think its quite comfortable.

And by god the quads had their best workout for a long time. They felt connected all the way through the pedal stroke. First impression on the speed - the proof is in the pudding when the next TT comes around but there was a noticeable improvement in average speed round my test circuit at a controlled HR. "

Andrew Girling, Time Trialist, BikeFit client July 2003 - see before/after below:

NOTE: Before the rider was slipping forward on the saddle (A) and knee failed to extend (B).

After there is less weight on the arms, arms are less stretched and knee extends fully.

"The bike feels great, after only a couple of 10k's I just seem to be going

much faster already! The seating position is so much more comfortable,

power delivery is smoother. No weight on the arms.

Looking to go much faster on my next event. Many thanks."

Graeme Sawyer, Triathlete, BikeFit client July 2003

"Thanks alot for the Speed Clinic I got loads out of it. Ridden twice now

on the new setup and seem to be going like a train! Doing a ten mile time trial friday night so will let you know how it went. My first one ever.

Many thanks once again. P.S. I recommend you to all my cycling mates.

Nick Keeling, Duathlete, BikeFit client June 2003

"A belated note to say what a difference to my cycling the speed clinic made. I am far more comfortable over longer distances and have noted better average speeds since you sorted out my position. What a difference a few centimetres make. Thank you again."

James Suter, Cyclist , May 2003.

"I've been out on the new bike finally and its fantastic. My new position is

so comfortable, no neck or backache for a change. The whole session was

excellent and well worth the trip."

Daron Perkins, Triathlete, JBST coaching client , April 2003.

"Did TT on Tuesday after aqua jogger and did 29.04 best yet this year. Changed bike set up on Thursday, levelled saddle, put 50mmstem on (smallest possible) to replace the 105mm one, lowered bars 10mm and moved them around. On Friday did outdoor bike test, felt comfortable, held aero for most of the way and took 2 mins off my time, felt like there was more to come!

Also this week lost another 0.5 kg down to 68 kg now, since Christmas thats about 7 kg."

Simon Morton, Triathlete, JBST coaching client , June 2002.

Before her Silver medal at the European Duathlon Championship.

2002 National Duathlon Champion Vicky Pincombe had a SPEED CLINIC.

See her before and after pictures here

Thanks for the excellent speed clinic bike set up.

Can't wait to ride. Will call next week re:training pre National Duathlon

championships.

Steve Ward, Duathlete, JBST coaching client, April 2002.

"I found your clinic very good I transferred position on to road bike and

rode 45 miles today. At first it felt bad particularly on climbs (seated) however after some gentle riding and a bit of stretching and I felt stronger with less muscle fatigue and a lower HR. I gave it some stick on the way home and was surprised at the perceived extra speed I could find. Obviously the time keeper will prove the point . I WILL RECOMMEND YOU VERY STRONGLY. Except to two guys I hope to beat this year.

Chris Bishopp (shown top left), Time Triallist, February 2002.

"Another season finished - some high placings in the WTTA and RTTC hilly series and a couple of 56's for 25.

This shot of me in a 50 - gives a reasonable idea of the new position, which the 25 times have proved is fast."

Tony Emery, Speed Clinic client, Veteran Time Trialist

"I am starting to adapt to the new position. Felt like I had borrowed

somebody elses bike for a while, but after a few hundred miles now it's

starting to feel normal.

I do think that I should be able to develop a bit more power and I have found climbing in the saddle easier. Great. Thanks and best regards"

Hugo Thompson, Triathlete, October 2001.

"Thanks very much for your time yesterday, I'm excited and inspired by what I learnt. Here's my immediate thoughts, having ridden my bike to work today...

The bar position is great, what a revelation! It feels fine and as you said, gives me more scope for reliveing the discomfort in my wrists. I'll be changing my Caribou and my cross bike to match asap. Likewise the pedals (or rather cleat position), I deliberately rode a short, sharp hill and my effort feels to be going more into driving the bike forward, and less into keeping a balanced position. I hope that it's more than a placebo, I'm sure it is."

John Elkin, Mountain Biker, June 2001

"I have been meaning to let you know how I have got on since I attended the speed clinic back in February. The bike has felt very stable, comfortable and fast! I have had good success - see the RTTC TT Series Vets Actual results n:-http://www.rttc.org.uk/ttspages2001/vact2001.htm

Since adopting the new position, I have needed to re-learn how to ride a time-trial, since I can now 'roll the gear' over lumpy terrain. So I do not need to change down a gear as often. Also the bike seems to want to go faster - a strange feeling."

Tony Emery, Time Trailist, June 2001.

"Many thanks again for the Speed Clinic. I have since got the new stem. The riding position now feels much more comfortable and the familiar aches and pains have disappeared and I'm looking forward to getting out and putting in some miles. "

Justin Hodges, Fitness Rider, June 2001

"SPEED CLINIC gave me a good degree of confidence when spending so much money on a new bike. I want to get under the hour by my 30th so I have the hardware just need to work on the head and engine now."

James Lamb, Time Trialist, January 2001

"I thought the Speed Clinic was very good value for money, especially as the bike set up took three hours. Apart from the bike being set up to its optimum for speed cycling (when required) exactly for me, I feel psychologically boosted knowing this and will achieve more from being positively charged when on it. I will be more reluctant to lend it to someone else, and will ban them from changing any of the set up apart from the seat height."

Simon Haggarty, January 2001

"I just want to say thanks for all your help this year. Your nuggets of

wisdom, experience, motivation and holistic approach to training has certainly

benefited my sporting performance this yr. I am excited about the future."

Lee Piercy, World Duathlon Champs Top 20 Age Grouper, November 2000

"On the day after my Speed Clinic I did my basic 'lumpy' 18 miler. Average

speed for a steady cruise was over 1.5 mph faster, average time around five

minutes faster, a bit subjective as I didn't use my HRM but a definite

improvement. Hills felt especially good, the best way to describe it is that

the bike felt like it was pulling me up the hill rather than me dragging it. I didn't feel the need to search for an easier gear as much as before, this was also noticeable when going into a headwind."

Barry Judge, November 2000

"Thanks for the recent Speed Clinic. I can't believe that I rode all season so basically out of position. I was certainly impressed with the time you tookand your attention to detail, it was money well spent and I've recommended the clinic to friends without hesitation."

Peter Court, November 2000

"Position on bike is certainly helping as for first time am feeling more

comfortable and not fighting the bike - just wish I'd seen you earlier and

not 'wasted' the season. Did the Ballbuster Duathlon last Saturday, 8th overall and first Vet, split times a bit hard to compare to last year but the average

mph on the computer was up by 1mph and it was a lousey day this year, very

windy, damp and wet unlike 1999 when conditions were cold but perfect. So

looking forward to working on the bike this winter and having a better 2001."

Ian Ford, November 2000

"Did 33 miles yesterday with the new set up. It certainly felt a lot more natural and some familiar aches and pains weren't there, particularly around the arms. Cruising position much better.

Tried the aero position several times and felt good. Difficult to keep the

HR down as I tended to speed up automatically simply by being in the

position. Definitely worthwhile and a good step forward."

Simon Talbot, October 2000

"The bikes certainly feel very different, they feel much faster. I feel much

more powerful than before, and the better balance on the bike give much more confidence. When I tried the road bike after you first made the tweaks, the bike felt so different that it was a similar feeling to getting on a road bike for the first time after riding a mountain bike for a long time.

It feels much more comfortable climbing whilst sitting in the saddle at a

steeper gradient than before. I don't feel the need to jump out of the

saddle as soon as I hit a climb and wrestle the bike to the top."

James Hector, October 2000

"The speed clinic was of great benefit. My pedalling is now a lot more fluid than before, in particular I noticed that I am now able to spin at much greater cadence if required and that my ankling has improved dramatically (isolated leg work showed this to great effect). No problems with the left knee, all in all I am jolly pleased. I'll definitely recommend the service to any of my cycling mates."

Paul Wright, October 2000

"I am enjoying the new set-up as is more comfortable than the old. My average speed has definately improved on the flat due to being radically more aero."

Adrian Short, September 2000

"Web cam to see biking position and consequently make required adjustments. Ability to not only alter but change equipment during the session (ie stem). Good knowledge in aerodynamics and bike mechanics

Tuition/instruction is conducted in a 'positive' and enthusiastic manner,

both of which help to heighten motivation in the athlete."

Lee Piercy, September 2000

"Speed Clinic is a searching session for both novice and experienced cyclists, the innovative use of the web-cam enabled me to see the changes Joe suggested as they were implemented, altering my profile from the aerodynamics of a hippo to something looking like a cyclist. I know that I'll never be a Chris Boardman or David Miller but the day after the session I recorded a PB in far from perfect conditions. I would not hesitate to recommend Speed Clinic to any cyclist, in fact it is a must."

John Milkins, July 2000.

"I read everything I can find on sports physiology and bike position. I sometimes have back problems during longer (12 hour) time trials, so its been a careful balance between comfort and efficiency. Speed Clinic evaluated all aspects of my position on the TT bike in fine detail, and made small but significant changes to saddle height and reach. I've set up my other bikes accordingly, and I can feel the difference straight away.

And if you go - do the ramp test - its the test of truth!"

Peter Harding, June 2000
