QATAR-Location, Size, Resources
Qatar is a peninsula located on the west coast of the Arabian Gulf. The entire country is about the size of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined and shares it’s only land border with Saudi Arabia.
Doha, the capital city and commercial center of Qatar, is located midway along the east coast of the peninsula. For all of you sailors out there the location is: 25˚ 30´ N, 51˚ 15´ E. If you are planning to visit us the flight from DC to Doha is about 14 hours and we are in the Asian Standard Time (AST) zone which is 8 hours ahead of the east coast (EST).
Qatar has a flat, rocky terrain consisting of loose sand (lots of sand!) and gravel. The natural resources are petroleum, natural gas, and fish ( Jock loves the shrimp!). Fresh water is limited, and there is a heavy reliance on desalination plants.
