Some of Joanne Jenkins’ favorite things!
I believe strongly that if I, as an educator, expect my students to be open-minded, learn new things and take risks in their learning, than I must be prepared to do likewise! That philosophy has taken me out of my comfort zone over the past few years. I have learned that some things, like jogging, I really enjoy that I never thought I would like. I also learned that some activities, like flying from a trapeze, I will never do again! I am not a thrill seeker by any means. The goals I set for myself to learn new things can be as simple as taking a basic art class, because I only draw stick figures. More than anything, I learn to have empathy for students as they take risks to speak in a new language in front of others. because I, as an adult, also know what it feels like to try something new.

All grown-ups were once children. (But few of them remember it).

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
